| - Great gym for the price. I'm not big into lifting weights - I'm most often here to do some cardio or take classes so I'm very happy with Capital Fitness! I'm not really sure how good the weight lifting equipment is here but my partner does do strength training and weights and he seems happy with it + says its better than the UW-Madison gym for sure, if that counts for anything.
Although I'm a grad student at UW, I've never visited the gym because the SERF started remodeling when I got here and the other school gym options seemed too far for me to realistically use on a regular basis. So I looked for gyms in the downtown area and overall, I've been really happy here because all classes are included in your monthly fee ($49 a month for students if you sign up for a year, $39 a month for a two year contract) and all the teachers I've had have been great! So far I've done Zumba, WERQ, Body Pump, and yoga classes here. It was my first time taking a Body Pump class so I went a little early and the instructor was extremely helpful. Also shoutout to Sarrut's 7:45am WERQ classes - me and my friend love her energy and positive spirit, even when there's only a few people in the class. They have a smoothie bar and free coffee, the locker room is clean, and the staff are generally really friendly and greet you when you come in. It's also never extremely crowded which is nice.
If you're looking for a gym in the downtown area, this is a great option.
