| - A bunch of us had been wanting to do an "escape room" for some time, and so we finally got off our butts and tried it out. "Esc-It" felt like a great option for first-timers. The puzzles aren't *too* difficult or complicated, and the scenarios are cute. While the overall design of the rooms leaves something to be desired (clearly the "prop" budget isn't very high here), nothing got in the way of the actual fun. I'm sure if you were to have visited "higher budget" escape rooms in the past you'd be disappointed in the overall look and feel of the rooms, but since we were newcomers it didn't really bother us. In fact, we had so much fun in fact that after we finished our first room, we booked another room for later that evening and came back after grabbing some dinner.
The staff was very friendly, and warned us that our selected room (the hardest) might not have been best for first timers. The puzzles themselves aren't overly complex, and there were a few that we understood what we had to do, it just took some time to do it. Some puzzles were more clever than others, and if we had one complaint it was that it felt like we were mostly just trying to unlock lockbox after lockbox. That being said, many of the puzzles to uncover the "combination" were quite clever, it just would have been nice to have a little more variety than 4 digital combination locks over and over again.
There are a good number of different rooms meaning it'll be easy to come back and try out new puzzles, and the variety of difficulty levels means that if you start from the bottom and work your way up you'll have plenty of options.
Perhaps the best thing about it was the price. You get a 20% discount for checking in on Facebook and another 20% if you pay cash. This means your final price is $12/person, which is a pretty cheap night out, and definitely a lot more fun and interactive than going to a movie.
All in all we had a blast and can't wait to come back.
