Someone told me that I'd likely be extremely disappointed in this museum since I've been to every museum in LA and SF, but...that's not how museums work. Every museum has something unique and interesting to offer and I was really impressed with this one!! It's a lot larger than I anticipated and it took me over 5 hours to get through it all. My feet were dead but it was absolutely worth the extensive walkthrough.
Some of my favorites, without getting into too much detail since I was an art history undergrad and could easily get carried away...
1. The Samurai exhibit going on currently is wonderful. So much attention to detail!! All the masks are incredible.
2. The Living Need Light, The Dead Need Music. Wow. I walked into this 20 min documentary halfway and then stayed to watch it 3 more times...I could not get over how well it was produced. The music alone blew my mind. I would see a full-length film of this in theaters...
3. You Who are Getting Obliterated in a Dancing Swarm of Fireflies. I think this was actually on exhibit at the PACE gallery in Palo Alto and I was bummed to miss it so I was elated to catch it here. I walked through it at least a dozen times. I want to write a paper on it...
What a fantastic museum experience! One of my favorites actually. I would love to revisit on my next trip to Phoenix. Will definitely keep an eye out for future exhibitions.
