| - Wow. Where do I start? I stayed at The Scott for a conference last week. I arrived and approached the front desk to check in. Now, most places I go the staff is immediately friendly. Not the case here. I explained that I was there for a conference and gave the girl my name (she's lucky I've forgotten her name because I would like to file a formal complaint about her in general). There was no small talk, no "how was your trip in? Is this your first time in AZ?" Ok fine. I was told my company card would be accepted for the room fee but I had to put my own credit card down for incidentals. I asked how much that would be and she said "I don't know. Maybe $500." I asked why that couldn't be covered by the credit card provided by my company and she said "Well it's not listed on there as being covered by it so I can't allow you to charge it to that." Now first of all, there is no check box for "incidentals" on their Credit Card Authorization form so how would I have known that? Second of all, she picked a random amount instead of taking the time to properly calculate it and letting me know. Whatever. I get my room key and head to my room. First impression from the Lobby to the pool to the room was positive. Then I opened the room door and to my surprise someone was already in there! Embarrassed and angry I closed the door and headed back to the front desk. I explained what had happened and the girl simply said "oh really?" Now, meanwhile, another company is being checked in by a woman that is beyond polite to them and even asked their room preference. I'm still dealing with negative Nancy and request a room with a view of the pool due to the experience I just had. She looks at me like I'm crazy and says "well we have rooms available but that would cost extra." Wow. Ok just give me a room I haven't slept in 24 hours. I'm given a room in the 400 building. I walk in and am immediately taken aback by the smell of mold/mildew. Seriously, it smelt like a pipe broke and the building was never cleaned properly? Long story short by the end of my trip I was sick due to the mold/mildew I dealt with night after night. It was utterly disgusting. I asked my colleagues how much their "incidental fee" was and everyone gave me a different number. Talk about inconsistencies. When I went to check out I also asked for a receipt for the room charge as my company requested one. The woman behind the desk kept saying "I can't give you one because it was a group fee." She was unable to explain to me that the rooms were already included in the conference fee. Why did you need my company credit card then?! Unbelievable lack of communication skills.
Quick other tidbits; the breakfast was appalling (watery eggs which was your only choice for protein) and coffee that was absolutely awful. The waitstaff was excellent, however. The pool and hot tub were ok but our first time in the hot tub a light had been pulled out and was just sitting in the middle of the circle. Um, safety issue much? Additionally, one of the jets was so violent it was spewing water everywhere.
The shuttle and the staff that ran that service were excellent and free parking at the resort was a bonus. There is free wifi, however, you must sign in to it every morning in order for it to work. No information was given to me about this and I used half of my data before a coworker discovered the issue.
There are plenty of other places in the area to stay and until they re-do the rooms and hire friendly front desk personal, I would stay elsewhere.
