| - Great place to take the kids while you get your farm produce on. On a weekend the place is buzzing, but there's plenty of parking and having all the kids running around makes the place feel lively.
Downey's is a multi-building complex on an active farm. There is honey from local bees, a decent bakery, a small selection of local cheeses, plenty of preserves and fresh produce. There's also a fruit winery on site - no grape wine, but plenty of elderberry, apple, peach, &c. Mostly I've found the wines there oversweet, but I'll chalk it up to individual preference. Won't hurt you to taste a few, anyhow.
Outdoors, there are booths set up for fries and hotdogs, an actively-maintained corn maze, and usually some kind of seasonal display. In October, perhaps predictably, this is centered around hallowe'en, and the front yard is given over to a reasonably massive haul-your-own pumpkin patch.
The variety and selection won't match a full many-participant farmer's market, but Downey's is reliable, fresh, and reasonably priced. And the kids seem to dig it.
Pro-tip: work the preserves shelves; it ain't all pickles. Peppercorn mustard, apple butter, beet salsa. There's fun to be had, here.
