  • I have been to Carowinds several times and have always had a great time (though I haven't been in about 5 years). My husband and I just moved to Charlotte and live about 10 mins away. We were considering buying season passes because we thought it would be cool to take friends and family when they visit. We bought tickets today (at a very discounted rate thanks to a mailer we got) and set out for an exciting day. We got to the park right when it opened, which was a very smart move. Bag check and ticketing all went smooth and we went straight to ride Fury. We were told we had to pay for a locker to put our bag in to be able to get on the ride...it was $2...not the worst. Fury was amazing and they were able to get people on and off quickly since no one had bags..OK $2 well spent. We only spent maybe 20 mins in that line. Next we rode Vortex, also not too bad. The Intimidator is where things got hairy. The ride was temporarily closed but the delay was probably 15 mins. Next we did plants vs zombies, which was amazing. Then our day took a turn for the worse. We got stuck on Cobra at the top. We didn't get to ride that. Once the got us down they stopped the ride. We got in line for Nighthawk, which was about a 2 hour wait...that broke down right as we were at the steps. Also, all the water fountains along the way are broken, so we were very dehydrated and decided to call it quits after waiting in the hot sun with no water for 3 hours. Overall we spent 4-5 hours waiting for coasters we never got to ride. Had I paid full admission, I would be very upset...luckily we paid $30 per ticket so it wasn't a huge loss. Fury and PvZ were great, but not enough to warrant $60-70 a ticket. Again, I've been several times a few years ago and I can't remember coasters going down at all, much less every hour. I get (and appreciate) that safety is a top priority, but I don't understand how so many coasters are shut down so frequently, that speaks to a much larger problem with the park. I don't remember these things happening at Universal or Busch Gardens or any of the other parks I've been to. Next time I want a coaster fueled adrenaline rush I will save my money and find a cheap flight to Orlando.
