| - Lately I've been feeling more like a Las Vegas resident with all the temporary work assignments out here. Naturally, like any kamaaina being away from home, my gills started drying from being in the desert and I missed our melting pot of amazing food.
This day was no different. I was fiending for some amazing, Chinatown-like pho tai. Surely, most places on the 9th island would disappoint. I searched Yelp for hours, meticulously going through review after review, photo after photo and eyeing up each restaurants website. I felt like a crazed person. But I NEEDED some good pho...I needed something familiar and reminiscent of home.
Finally came across District One which was about 15 minutes from my workplace, great reviews, pics looked promising... Skeptical, I ordered take away from them anyway. Got the pho tai and egg rolls.
Food was ready when I got there, the server helping me was friendly and trying to sell me on the happy hour but not in a pushy, salesman type of way. Got back to work, spread all this vietnamese goodness across an entire lunch table, and to my surprise...they packaged the meat separately and uncooked! HALLELUJAH!!!! I like my meat still kicking because that's where all the flavor is so I really enjoy dipping the beef in for 5-7 seconds, taking it out and eating it. There's nothing I hate more than precooked, overcooked, flavorless meat. Added my sprouts, peppers, lime, basil, hot sauce, hoisin sauce, noodles. Then started rolling my egg rolls in the lettuce, filling it with the shredded carrots & daikon, mint etc. This take out experience was HEAVEN!! The beast was tamed.
Needless to say, my colleagues and I come here quite a bit now and there's a take out menu posted in the office.
