  • I have been a guest in many Vegas spas over the past few years, and recently - a frequent groupon user; I also work in customer service here myself. I got to know lots of businesses, and anyone can quickly realize that in this city, in this economy, and with Internet and ability to review one's experience - if you are cavalier with customers' money, if you treat your clients like replaceable "johns" after they paid you, you may make petty cash ripping off a few of them here and there, but it will only get you so far. Unfortunately, Rio's Spa& Salon is one of those places that still practice a "tourist trap" philosophy: "get their money, and run!" I purchased their groupon facial around Christmas and made an appointment on May 2. I called 2 weeks prior to make that appointment, and was a little surprised that they asked me for my groupon number: now, I made lots of groupon appointments before, and no one place took my number prior to my actually showing up. Now I know that they had concocted what they probably thought a brilliant scheme: sell groupons, take money, and statistically half or even more of those groupon holders won't make an appointment, or won't be able to cancel it 4 hours before - their "policy" - therefore they get money and don't have to provide any services. And that's exactly what they did. My appointment was at 10 am, I called them immediately after they opened that day and told them about horrible sinus infection that knocked me down evening before, and asked if I can reschedule. I was told I wasn't within 4 hours "cancellation policy", I cannot reschedule, and "call the Groupon or something", and I got hung up on. Now - this kind of treatment would only be acceptable if I had an appointment for a consultation with the Noble prize brain surgeon flying here for a day from Australia. They are a spa, and I had a facial! So, dear Locals, beware of Rio's Spa&Salon: businesses that use Groupon usually do it to bring customers ... so, there is a reason why this place needed to do that. And judging by how they pounced on my money, I suspect other shortcuts, like using substandard products. So you may go in for Facial, and leave looking like a Lobster with Eczema. And you, Dear Hotel Guest who has no choice but to use their services - watch your money, watch your bill, watch your wallet so you still have it when you leave!
