  • Was very excited to try 42 North for my husband's birthday. Upon stepping inside, we were greeted not by aromas of delicious food, but by a musty, stinky stench. It seriously smelled like dirty old carpets. We were seated, and I noticed there was only one other occupied table.....red flag. Our waiter was friendly, but before ordering even a drink, I inquired about the smell. The waiter said he didn't notice anything, but then he'd been sick for over a week and couldn't smell a thing. Couldn't even hear out of his left ear, in fact! He suggested it might be a dirty mop that needed bleaching, since they had just cleaned out their mop closet. Aroma of dirty mop over dinner, I'll pass! We graciously excused ourselves and went elsewhere. Not likely to give this a second chance. Very disappointing.
