| - You know how, when you go to any other car/bike/boat/taun-taun dealer asking about a specific vehicle and EVERY. SINGLE. DAMN. TIME. the salesguy is all "Oh, we JUST sold that one, but here's this other much $nicer$ car/bike/boat/taun-taun"?
I had pinged Western about a new 2015 CB500FA, looking at the previous model year because it had a sweet discount. John Lloyd immediately got back to me to come in and check it out. When I got there, I didn't see it; I did, however, see a couple of non-ABS bikes. John checked further and admitted that he'd screwed up, it wasn't ready. But if I wanted to try a less expensive non-ABS bike, he'd cut me a deal - exactly the opposite of the usual car/bike/boat/taun-taun shysters. ABS has saved my arse a few times and was on my gotta-have list, so I turned him down. After a bit of back and forth, he mentioned the 2016 CB500FA. The OTD price that I had figured for the 2016 was right at the top of my budget (hey, I'm cheap - you ride a BMW for two years and you soon learn to pinch pennies), but John came through with a fantastic deal on it for me. None of this "Weeellll, let me run this by the boss and see what he says" bullshit, just "Here's what I can do for you to make up for our mistake." Negotiations took, IIRC, 15 minutes. Seriously.
USAA had already approved my loan, so all we had to do was write up the purchase order and call them. We nailed down the last few items, USAA overnighted the check, and the next morning I had my shiny new precious with the shock preload set to my specs and everything just perfect.
I didn't really check out the rest of the operation. Parts and accessories stock appears to be small but sufficient, the employees are friendly and competent, and the service guys appear to know their stuff. I'll update when I take baby in for her first oil change.
