| - Inside the small Eureka Casino, Fat Choy's is a perfect blend of American Diner meets Asian comfort food.
When we dined there it was a rainy Saturday night, which meant the restaurant was pretty empty. People don't go out in the rain I guess. From my yelp research and with assistance from the server, we ordered the short rib grilled cheese, pork bao, sesame noodles, and a wedge salad (to be 'healthy').
The grilled cheese was by far the stand out. It was exactly what I wanted it to be. It had that good 'merican taste combined with rich short rib. It came with a side of tomato dipping sauce to cut some of the richness. Maybe it's the Asian side of me, but I would have preferred a pickled veggie on the side, like some kimchi or cabbage to cut the richness. I guess I needed more vinegary than what the tomato-y sauce offered.
The pork bao was delicious! The bao were nice little fluffy pillows on which the pork belly could rest.
I wasn't a huge fan of the sesame noodles. It was a pretty big portion and I got tired of them quickly. I wanted them to have more sesame oil on them and I thought it also could have benefited from more veggies like cabbage or sprouts to contrast the noodles. But, they weren't bad and I could see why people like them.
I had a great time at Fat Choy and I'll be back for the really friendly/enthusiastic service, short rib grilled cheese, the bao, and whatever other creative menu items might be on for the day.
