| - After trying a few boutique yoga studios through ClassPass, I can see why people are willing to pay for membership here - the facilities are beautiful. They offer cucumber-infused water and tea in the lobby. They have combination lockers (you do not need to bring a lock), hair ties / bobby pins in the change room, showers, and really great smelling soap (it's true). The receptionists are nice, and seem to know quite a few regulars by name. There's an option to store your mat for a monthly fee. The studio I was in (Flow) had mirrors, which was super helpful for checking form. Overall, a very lovely space.
Despite this, I am actually giving 5 stars for the instructor, Peter. I took the beginners' class (75 minutes), and having tried out various "foundations" classes thus far, this was my favourite. The class was challenging, but inclusive. For every move or sequence that was shown to us, Peter would either talk us through the pose to ensure proper alignment, or model the sequence himself. He would show numerous modifications. Despite the fact that the class seemed quite full, he would come around and check people's form. The mood was never competitive. Really, really enjoyed the class and would recommend for beginners!
Of course, I can't really comment on more advanced classes, but the selection at YogaTree seems great for Level 1 courses. I like that there is a "Reduced Heat" class, which seems like a great way to transition into hot yoga.
The only downside was the change rooms were quite tight when class finished. But this is fine, when you consider how loose you feel by then!
