This was the first time my wife and I saw a Reds game outside of GABP and we were really psyched to visit Progressive Field, a.k.a. "The Jake".
The directions that the Indians website gives you to the ballpark are horrible. Quite frankly, I'm surprised we found it at all. The parking garage near the park was relatively inexpensive, and finding a space was easy 1 hour b/f first pitch.
We didn't know what restaurants were nearby so we decided to have dinner at the ballpark. The good news is that Progressive boats 80 kinds of food. The bad news is that there is no sit-down restaurant within the park. I now purists would argue with me, but I really expected there to be one. Plus the pizza is terrible.
Gone are the days of packed sell-out and the section we were in, behind home plate, was the only section in the upper-deck that was open. Even though we were in the nose-bleeds, the sight-lines were still good and we could clearly see the entire field.
The Indian fans that we encountered were respectful toward us, and knowledgeable about the game of baseball. The staff was really outstanding and a step above what we've seen at GABP.
Traffic in and around Progressive Field needs some engineering. We took a sojourn to the casino after the game, but it still took us 1/2 hour to get back on the highway after we got back in our car.
All in all a good experience. I was impressed and would return to watch another game if the opportunity presented itself.
