| - I flew into Madison with only two hours of sleep & no food, so excited to spend time with my Darling Daughter (DD). Our first stop was Monty's Blue Plate Diner. When you enter the diner the first thing you see is the dessert case. They have their own bakery (examples: pies, cakes, giant cupcakes, donuts, pecan rolls, etc). Then you notice the casual, friendly atmosphere with booths & tables. My hubby will love the fact they serve breakfast all day, everyday & they have a To Go menu.
Our server, Keith W, was personable, prompt, & so helpful in describing the different dishes. DD & I each ordered a coffee with donut ($2.79 per order) DD ordered Florentine, one of their specialities. (Sautéed spinach, onions, tomatoes and two poached eggs on top of crusty sourdough bread and finished with Mornay sauce & American fried potatoes $8.99). I ordered Eggs Mornay: Two poached eggs with smoked ham on a toasted English muffin, topped with Mornay sauce & served with American fried potatoes $8.99.
You can order any one of six different hamburgers (five can be made gluten sensitive and one is Vegetarian) between 11am until closing. But that's not all.... They serve 11 different Entrees, 14 sandwiches, 5 salads & at least 3 soups! And I know all of that sounds wonderful, but I haven't even started to describe the specialty shakes, malts, sundaes and fountain drinks. My brother is a huge Elvis fan, so he'll probably love the "Fat Elvis Shake": vanilla ice cream, peanut butter, sliced bananas, & a splash of chocolate syrup ($6.99)! Yum!
