  • Ugh. Not impressed. Lake Las Vegas is pretty - the view of the Las Vegas strip at night is lovely when you are driving into the resort area. We arrived late at the hotel after a late night flight - it was after midnight - we couldn't find anyone to check us in at first but finally did. We were given quick directions to our suite which we had to drive to because it was a ways away from the main parking area.... by the pool. First issue, NO signage leading to these rooms which are a cluster of three smaller double room suites built independently away from the main hotel. At night - it's almost impossible to find them - they are located behind the pool area, behind another parking lot, down a nondescript side road by dirt and dumpsters down a fire lane. Second issue, once you do find them, there is NO signage for the room numbers - the signs are very small and not lit up at night - so I had to get out of the car and walk around with my phone light outside these three buildings to find the room that was ours. Are you kidding me?! Westin - you can do better. How about signs pointing to the road - and signs for the room numbers. So finally we get into the room - it's large and spacious with a kitchenette, large sitting room with a sofa and fireplace and dining table, then a large bedroom and bathroom. I walk into the bedroom and see - the bed has not been made - it has sheets that aren't fitted - flat sheets - and queen sized ones (for a king bed) - so you could see the mattress - also - the comforter was thrown on the bed - it had just been dumped on top in a crumpled mess. I called the front desk and spoke to Amanda, who was nice, but advised me that no one was there from housekeeping to make the bed that late so they'd move us to another room - after the issues finding it and being so late and tired with our bags I told her to forget it - we'd stay and make the bed ourselves at 2am. Not cool. The next morning we ordered room service, which was good. I got an omelete with breakfast potatoes and toast. It was actually really good, a huge omelete stuffed with the options I chose (which were almost all of them so it was like $28 bc it was $1 per extra item past three and I like lotsa veggies). It arrived after about 35 minutes so not too terrible. The housekeeping staff cleaned the room while we were gone for the day but did not replace any of the toiletry items I had used --- like the shower cap or sewing kit. The bed was made but not fully and again the sheets weren't the size of the bed so I could still see the mattress. I will say that the bed and pillows were plush and very comfortable - once in the bed it was comfortable as hell and I slept well. The bed had reading lights attached - one side was blown out and missing the knob to turn it on. There was no plug on one side of the bed for you to charge anything - a huge pet peeve of mine. The tv reception was terrible with snow on the picture and bad quality. And on the final day one of the lights in the recessed can lights over the bed was flickering on and off like a horror movie so we couldn't stand it and kept it off - I turned it on in a moment of desperation to try to find something in my bag and it began to pop, sizzle and smoke - I quickly turned it off but you could smell something burnt in the room. Freaked me out. The suite faces the pool - which was closed for renovations and had people working outside on it making loud noises at 8am bright and early every day... the pool faces the bedroom and large seating area because of all of the windows and french doors on the suite. So that was not pleasant or relaxing. I was woken up promptly at 8am the first morning and couldn't get back to sleep even after I went and got my earplugs (never travel without them!). Honestly, I wasn't impressed. From the moment we arrived with the lack of signage and lighting to find the rooms, to the unmade bed, the cleaning staff, the burnt out lights and general upkeep of the place. I'm also annoyed that most hotels don't take the time to actually think out the small things that make a big difference to guests - like plug-ins by the bed and conveniences that make a big difference to travelers. I'd stay somewhere else if I were you - the Lake Las Vegas area is beautiful - though obviously still recovering from the economic downturn, but this hotel is sadly lacking in the tiny things that make a big difference, attention to detail and is in need of update and renovations.
