| - What to say about the Mawwd Club?
Now, I can have fun anywhere. I am not a nightlife snob, I even used to go to the club district for retro Sunday nights, back in the day. But most of the time when I end up here, it is for a specific reason (being taken there by a specific person), or because I have not wanted to venture very far from home (usually in the winter), since it's about a 5 minute walk from my house.
Our British cultural fascination is not what it once was, five years ago. Even when the Mod Club Theatre opened, it felt like it was kind of already over. Once Blow Up (remember? At Lee's Palace??) had its last hurrah, things didn't feel the same, and it's cuz they weren't. This has always seemed far more contrived than the other, and way less fun. However, I have the utmost love and respect for Mr. Mark Holmes, that I promise you. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Platinum_Blonde_(band)
I remember strongly disliking: the go-go dancers on the stage, which I assumed were a part of perks I got with the ludicrous $15 dollar cover charge. I would have voted no, had they asked.
Fun fact: 'twas after a trip here that I threw up for the first (and only) time, for alcohol-related reasons. Which seems about right. It also, incidentally, marks the last time I ever drank Smirnoff Ice. These things all seem to encapsulate the way I feel about this place.
