| - After some extensive research, I decided to dine at Craftsteak to celebrate my birthday. For the most part, it was a good meal. More on that later. My party of two were seated at a larger table against the wall, which was very nice and intimate. The service here was also attentive, and the waiter wasn't afraid to let us know what he recommended and what he didn't recommend.
We ultimately ordered:
18 oz Bone-in Ribeye - Grilled to perfection, and seasoned perfectly. It's a very memorable steak if you ask me, and I'm glad that I ordered it. I know my way around a steak (especially a ribeye), and the steak they served me was extremely tender and tasty. Couldn't ask for more, to be honest.
10 oz Hangar Steak - I had heard great things about the hangar, especially how great of a value it was. This is absolutely true. If you're a fan of a charred steak, you don't have to look further. It had a lot more char than the ribeye, and while it wasn't as tender, it was nonetheless delicious.
Hen of the Woods Mushrooms - While the mushrooms did look out of this world (They're maitake mushrooms, after all), the earthy flavor was a perfect complement to the steak. I'm not a big mushroom eater, but I must say they were tasty. The texture is very interesting, but paired with a slice of the ribeye made for a divine bite of food.
Potato Puree - If you love mashed potatoes, you'll love this. What I appreciated is that it was rich, but not overly rich in its use of butter, cream and salt.
I really wanted to give Craftsteak five stars, but there was one issue that made it impossible. Prior to our entrees, they brought freshly baked bread to the table. It was warm, fluffy, crunchy and delicious. We finished it, and they asked if we would like more. The entrees took a little longer than expected to come out, so we said sure. When we received our bill, we found that they had charged us (it was marked as "AMUSE" on the bill) for both orders of bread. That's $24 for bread, which is absolutely ridiculous, especially since they DID NOT let us know beforehand. If it wasn't for this, our experience would have been perfect. Be warned!
