  • I normally like to write up a storm. But I'm gonna try my best to keep this brief because time is money, and Wong's Jr. is not worth the money. This restaurant just struck me as cheap. Simple as that. The price itself wasn't too bad; I paid $10 total. But it felt like Wong's Jr. cut every corner imaginable. It was one of the most lackluster Chinese restaurants I have ever been to. I had Szechuan Vegetables ("extra spicy") and Hot and Sour Soup. The Szechuan Vegetables were loaded with "cheap" vegetables - water chestnuts, carrots, onions, celery and green peppers. I don't have any problem with any of these vegetables in particular, but it's very telling that they are all "cheaper" vegetables. It felt like an insult. Like the restaurant was saying "Oh, you want vegetables? Sure, let's give you the cheapest vegetables possible!" Where was the broccoli or the green beans? Wong's Jr. was too cheap to include them. The sauce was watery and weak. I was hoping for a thicker and more satisfying sauce. Don't get me wrong; it's not like it tasted bad or anything. But it was very unexciting and not worth buying. Meanwhile, the Hot and Sour Soup was plain and bare bones. Also very unexciting. The White Rice was below average and a poor complement to the main dish. My meal was served to me in a box that was cut in half. Way to cut corners by not having to buy plastic bags! I could go on about the depressing atmosphere and bash the restaurant some more, but I really don't need to. Wong's Jr. was just very lackluster. The food itself wasn't bad, but quite noticeably below average. Below average simply doesn't cut it in 2016. It might have worked in the past, but with all the amazing food options available today, a restaurant must go above and beyond. This is a disappointment. For its below average service and food, Wong's Jr. gets 2 stars. It's certainly not the worst restaurant I have ever been to, but I have been to so much better. Wong's Jr. is not worth your time. Avoid.
