| - Unlike most, I did not cross the scary parking lot from Lotus of Siam to visit Komol. Rather, a vegetarian friend of mine touted this place as his favorite in Vegas and, with that endorsement, I had to visit. Admittedly, I was turned off on first sight -- it's fake flowers and dim lighting don't really do it for me. And the overwhelming menu made my head spin-- we're talking pages and pages of dishes, folks! But, then the food came out.... and the angels started singing. Now, we go about once a month with our veggie friends and have not yet had anything that has disappointed. My meal always starts with the cold papaya salad (fresh, slim-cut papaya with finely chopped green chilis, some salt and pepper to taste and a dash of lime juice - YUM and so fresh), and the tom kha soup. Where it goes from there is anyone's guess... but it never disappoints. My newest favorite: the sauteed flat noodles with faux duck. (I'm salivating as I type.)
4 stars are only because you feel you have to brave the elements every time you go. The last time I went, there was a scary homeless dude perched outside the entrance and the parking lot in front of this resto always seems to be littered with broken glass.
