  • A month ago, during my yearly A/C maintenance, Infinity (aka U.S. Air) salesman Jason K. convinced me that I should buy a new A/C unit as mine was 15 years old. My Ruud unit was still running. It was not broken nor did it need repairs. I had been keeping my thermostat at 90 degrees in the summer as I am a senior living on a fixed income. I ran ceiling fans to keep cool. Jason K. said that if I bought a new Trane that it would be much more efficient and that I could lower the thermostat and pay the same for my electric bill, and be cooler. I turned on the A/C on May 1st. I have it set at 86 degrees (only 4 degrees lower than before) and I only turn it on from 2pm to 10pm (1/3 of a day). I currently shut if off at night. My electric bill has already gone up by $16 so far this month in only 19 days (for 8 hours a day, not 24)! And now I have to pay over $160/month for the new unit and we're not even in the extreme heat season where I need to leave it on all day and night. Exactly where is the savings he promised? I paid them $11,700 for the unit and a 10 year service contract so now I am tied to this company for 10 years. I had used this company for yearly A/C maintenance before and didn't think they would rip me off. Guess I was wrong. So my only alternative is to go back to setting my thermostat to 90 degrees so that I can afford to pay my electric bill and make the payment on the new unit that I cannot afford to run. Very upset.
