| - We scheduled a local move from about a 12 mile move for July 11.
As far as the move itself, it went fine, if not a little long. But let me tell you, compared to others, it was expensive. A four bedroom house, approx. 2000 sq. ft took over 8 hours and cost us $1900 (not including tip). Considering we moved 80% of the boxes and smaller goods, most everything to be moved was furniture so this seems quite steep.
More importantly, the sales person (Kevin) specifically sold us on a couple of major points:
1.) ALL of the Stevens movers are employees
2) All were experienced and had years of service with Andrews
2) The move should take a 4 man crew approx. 6-7 hours and cost about $1,300-1,500.
When I was talking with the crew leader, he told me that:
1) He bought the trucks a year ago with his dad
2) He subcontracts through Andrews
So basically everything Kevin told us was a flat out lie and that is not acceptable in any way. Hiring a contract company is fine, but be upfront about it.
Thankfully, it was a short move and all of the little stuff was already packed and moved by us or it would have taken them 12-14 hours and the already expensive $1900 move would have been closer to $3,000.
I'm not saying don't use them as they did a decent job. Just make sure you ask questions upfront and now they will be more expensive than others. And if you have issues (as it seems many on Yelp did) it's gonna be a lot harder to deal with a company when all of their drivers and movers don't actually work for them (I'm guessing that's why so many people had issues).
