  • Five stars to the doctor. Dr Sarah Ryan. 2 stars for the Staff. Below was my experience. I met with Dr. Sarah Ryan for a consultation and she was fantastic and took time to talk and go over my upcoming procedure for kidney stones. She even helped me get in sooner to have the procedure because my insurance would be changing. I can't praise her enough for how friendly and kind she is was. I would recommend her to anyone needing treatment for kidney stones. Although, I showed up with X-rays and a disc for the appointment and she wanted to now order ct-scans. Thankfully Steinberg got me in soon, but after my follow up with her she tells me that she only needs the X-rays for my procedure and to bring those to the surgery center....still not sure why I needed the ct-scan and expose myself to the radiation if all she was going to use was my X-ray photos. The day of surgery (Monday,May 7th) went perfect and I went home with very minimal discomfort. However, on Thursday I started having excruciating pain and also a tingling feeling in my groin that continued hurting all day. I called the office and asked what I could do and they said they had to contact the doctor. They called back and wanted me to give a urine sample and take an antibiotic. This was fine, but they didn't address the pain I was having. None. The pain I was experiencing was getting increasingly worse at a very fast rate. I started throwing up and then had cold sweats where I felt like I was going to pass out. When I took a breathe it hurt. I called the office again to tell them how the pain had gotten worse and they said they'd called the doctor and get back to me. Well, I ended up never getting a phone call back and just called for an ambulance (May 10th) because I couldn't walk because I started shaking so bad and throwing up again. While I was in the ER I called to let them know I was there and they said they'd call the doctor and get back to me and AGAIN. Well, no phone call back. I needed up being treated with IV pain meds from the ER and was sent home. I rested for a few hours and went to bed around 10:30.I had taken my pain meds exactly when I should and the meds did nothing to help with the pain. In fact, it got so bad again I was throwing up and experiencing what I had earlier that day. I dealt with the pain for 4 hours with no relief so I finally gave in and went to the ER again. This time at 2:30 am on Friday, May 11th. I had to use a wheel chair to lean on to walk into the ER and threw up again, and my blood pressure was low. This time the doctors told me my pain meds i Had been given weren't helping and I should have gotten something stronger. They also asked why I wasn't given a medicine to help move the stones better. I can't remember the name of the pill but they said the pill was almost like a lubricant to help slide the stones down. They also asked why I wasn't given a stent or something to catch the stones. All I could tell them is that the doctor said I didn't need a stent. My original stones were 4 and 5 mm before the procedure on May 7th and then after the ER did a ct scan they saw the stones were now 2 and 3 mm. Had someone called me back from the office not only would I have not needed to go the ER twice but all the extra pain could have been avoided with a stronger medciation. Now I'm paying ER Visit Bills TWICE because no one called me back. Thankfully the ER doctors were aggressive with my pain and monitored it until we got it under control. I left the ER at 8:30 am that morning, so I was there ALL night. I do need to mention the nurse I spoke to was kind and friendly, her name was Olga. The others name was I believe Christine? She wasn't very kind and seemed pretty irritated I even called. My issues with the staff is I knew Dr Ryan was having her own personal surgery so she wasn't on call. I just don't understand WHY someone wasn't there to cover her calls from her patients or why a different doctor couldn't help. Basically NOTHING was DONE! My other issue that happened with the staff if I went into Steinberg to get an x-ray for a follow up visit with Dr Ryan on May 16th and a WEEK had gone by and the staff hadn't sent over my papers. No big deal, I called the office while at Steinberg and was told it would be sent over immediately. Well, I waited an hour and no paperwork was sent over. I called the office again and spoke with scheduling and the nice lady said no papers hadn't been sent and that Jessie was suppose to have sent it. So the scheduling lady said she'd send it personally, which she did and was sent within minutes of hanging up the phone. The Steinberg visit which should have taken 30 minutes, ended up taking over 2 hours because no paperwork was sent and then when I called they didn't send anything until I called again! Please talk to you staff about being on top of phone calls and sending paperwork.
