| - They are trying.
So we get all dressed up coming from Westin Lake LV (one of my regular stay-cation spots. It was a Sunday night and I know it's like a a ghost town out there now days so I wasn't expecting much which is why I gave them 4 stars, they probably deserve 3.5 really.
We were out celebrating a friend's birthday and I was the only one in the group who had been to Lake LV. I love to take my dog, paddle-board, relax, ect.
Let's start with getting completely lost trying to find this place, mostly because hardly any businesses are open/operating in the area; seriously not even many lights.
We finally find the parking area closest to the boardwalk area where you have to walk a couple hundred yards to read the 'Sunset&Vines' sign.
Walking through the doors I felt an immediate Italian vibe which I liked, hence 'Vine's' in the name; very pretty decor. However it is an American restaurant with no background music at all, extremely awkward when there are less than 6 people in the place.
We all (4) waited around near the front hoping to get, at least, the only employee looking person in there's attention. She finally looked at me like ..."what?" after I walked towards her, I asked if we could be seated or have a server and I quickly learned that she was the server/bartender/hostess/possible cook too. She tried to be nice and helpful but even as another server appeared after she seated us, service was still very slow and there were less than two hand-fulls of people in there. When my friends asked for silver tequila shots there was a major struggle behind the bar on what to use so my boyfriend ran up to the rescue helping pick a tequila, they didn't have Patron or Jose.
The food was tasty and so was the bottle of white we ordered but the menu was small and somewhat confusing. Ordering white truffle mac-n-cheese the way it is put, "surf-n-turf", sounded so good until it came out almost the size of a kid's bowl with little tiny baby shrimps in the mac.
I would go back (mainly for the bacon wrapped stuffed dates) if I was close by but the dining choices out there all together are slim pickens and Sunset&Vines just doesn't have much of a market to work with, especially when they really need foot traffic per the location. Pretty tough spot they are in but I love the name and it really so much potential.
It was not a bad experience, just not a great one either and obviously the great company we had for birthday shenanigans is what kept the dinner alive.
They did bring out a rich velvet chocolate cake for my friend's birthday which was sweet.
Like I said earlier- They are trying.
I think they should do a Groupon deal to hype up the place, if they haven't already.....
