  • Found Matt's Big Breakfast while searching for restaurants in the area and Matt's popped up. We came in at 11am on Sunday doe NYE brunch and it was busy. There were probably 25 to 30 people waiting on benches outside of the restaurant. They provide complimentary flavored fruit water for waiting patrons. We checked in with the host inside with our name and number in our party. They call us by name when they are ready for us. The aesthetics of the restaurant is amazing -- magazine pages worthy. They have several table options -- bar top and window seating for diners of one or two. There's also tables around the rest of the restaurant for two or more diners. FOOD: - STEAK & EGGS ($15.95): the steak & eggs are Sunday's daily special. My 8 oz steak was cooked medium as I requested and I was surprised it came out cooked perfectly. The steak comes served with a side of A1 steak sauce. You also have a choice of either hash browns or home potatoes -- of course I opted for hash browns cooked well done for that extra crisp. The hash browns tasted exceptional and not commercialized. The inside was moist while the outside was crunchy and crisp. There was a lot of flavor in the hash browns. It goes great with their ketchup. My meal also comes with two eggs prepared any way you like -- over easy for me. It also comes with your choice of sourdough, white, or wheat bread and I opted for sourdough seeing how everyone else opted for that. I don't usually like eating bread, but I really enjoyed the sourdough bread. It comes out toasted and buttered. They also provide homemade preserves -- ask for the strawberry preserve. It's so good. They also sell it by the mason jar for $7 each. Soooo gooood. - CHEESE OMELET ($7.95): my friend really enjoyed his omelet. He added additions to the omelet such as spinach and roasted peppers for an additional $1.00 each. The omelet was huge and so cheesy. He requested hot sauce and they brought us Tapatio Hot Sauce -- yum. His meal also came with choice of potatoes and choice of bread. He opted for the home fries. Our server said the home potatoes are cooked with rosemary, olive oil, and other ingredients that I didn't catch. She made it sound so goood. I was able to try some and I would say it is the best home fries I have ever had. You don't really need ketchup because those home fries had so much flavor. - THICK CUT BACON ($3.50): we all love bacon, but the bacon here is out of this world! The bacon is thick cut and is lighted peppered with black pepper. The bacon was crisp and so good. You MUST order it. SERVICE was okay. They were nice but very busy. Our drinks weren't delivered until our meals came which was maybe a 10 to 15 minute wait. They did clear our plates from our table right when we finished. In conclusion, I would definitely recommend this gem of a restaurant to anyone visiting Downtown Phoenix. My friend said it was probably the best breakfast that he has ever had and I can't disagree. We ate like savages haha.
