  • Highlights/lowlights 1) decent food 2) nice atmosphere 3) ok location Visited Gates and Brovi for brunch on a Sunday. I had heard really mixed things but went in with an open mindset. The location is on the far west side of Monroe Street, so not in a super central location but not an expensive uber from downtown. We arrived around 11:10amish and were told they were only serving brunch for 20 more minutes! Gahhh! The brunch menu is pretty solid, with a variety of savory entrees (scramblers) as well as pancakes. There is full service at the bar, and it wasn't busy at all so we ate there. The atmosphere is cute, hard to describe but probably best described as "modern American" or "upscale family style". You can definitely tell it's a newer spot. We ordered scramblers with a side of cheesy grits. There isn't gluten free bread, but the servers/bartenders are knowledgeable about gluten free options. The food arrived fairly fast. It it was very mehhh. Not bad, but not super flavorful either. For what you pay it didn't seem worth it. Overall, fun to try if you haven't ever stopped in, but probably not somewhere I will come back to over and over.
