| - A reasonable cleaning service with a few minor issues. I've used handy/handybook for cleaning service for the past 11 months now, and plan to continue being a customer.
My first interaction with handybook was very negative through groupon, when they were relatively new in Phoenix, and were no show no call on my first three bookings resulting in cancelled sale / refund. Through this they did apologize and offer to allow me to try them in the future.
My first actual cleaning with handy was 4 months after my initial booking, with three prior no show/ no call issues. This started to change my opinion, my cleaner was Edye, and she was great, arrived on time, got right to work and kept going until everything exceeded my expectations. For my next 7 bookings Edye returned with a positive attitude and exceptional service. At some point I provided her a key to have access when I was not home.
Unfortunately handy is an independent contractor company, and Edye was let go, so with only 4 hours notice I had a new cleaner coming when I wasn't home. I was charged for a cleaning that did not occur, and had to call to correct this. While it was against policy and I was made to feel at fault the cleaning was rescheduled for only $20. The new cleaner did not meet my expectations, did minimal work, talked on her phone and overall finished less than half of what I had come to expect.
The benefit to handy being an independent contractor company is that they replaced this cleaner for me with my next booking and I'm back to satisfactory service.
Overall they lack consistency, they appear to struggle with demand at times, but they also charge appropriately for the service provided. Additionally between referrals, promotions, and credits I pay on average only $20 an hour for a house cleaning which is well below what other companies charge.
