| - Stopped in here with the family when my hubby was attracted to the clunky, dramatic jewelry in this store (they have a lot of funky, clunky jewelry, and other accessories, in addition to their piercing services). While there, my eldest daughter again lamented that fact that we, her fuddy-duddy out-of-touch parents, won't allow her to get a cartilage piercing in her ear). We inquired about cartilage piercing here with the staff and convinced it was a safe and sanitary place, we relented and told our kid, okay. (She's still not over the shock of it all!).
There were a lot of forms to fill out (especially since the kid is a minor). The questionnaires were thorough, and it validated my feeling that this was a safe and hygienic place.
Jerrod was our assigned piercer. Wow, he sure knows his stuff (and there's WAY more involved than I had known). I liked how the piercings are done in private rooms. We were expecting the piercing to be done with a piercing gun but, no, it's done manually with a needle. Jerrod explained that there's no real way to sterilize the piercing guns and, in fact, they are not allowed to use them by state law there. He was surprised that this is not the case in Seattle. (Both my kids got their ears pierced at Claire's with a piercing gun. Neither kid had any issues with their earlobe piercings).
At any rate, the room where we were was extremely clean. Jarrod asked my kid where she was thinking of getting the piercing and she pointed out a spot, to which Jarrod said that was too low, and he explained the possible issues that could arise from a piercing there. He drew 3 spots on her ear in the general vicinity of her preferred spot, and she chose one dot as the site. Jerrod then had her lie down and he carefully did the piercing (no numbing agent applied first). My kid said it hurt when he did it but it was quick and the pain immediately went away. (In contrast, when she had her ears pierced at Claire's, she said the pierce gun didn't hurt at all, but after the fact, for at least 30 minutes afterwards, there was a lot of stinging and pain. With the needle piercing, the procedure hurt but was fast and here was no subsequent pain at all).
Jerrod was so pleasant and nice, he really helped relieve my kid's anxiety. And he took the time to carefully go over all the post-procedure care directions, and he gave her some care forms and ways to contact him if any problems arose.
All in all, this was a very positive experience and I felt it was a hygienic a place as one could hope for.
