| - As a Naked Fish customer of many years (since 2005...and with their rare "member" card), a die-hard loyal fan (I almost never try other places) and someone who has brought much business to them, including as personal and work caterers, I suppose I set my standards in customer service very high for this place and that might have set me up for the disappointment of this new restaurant. I missed Wanda's energy, Miyuki's warmth...and the other staff (although I've noticed there are many new waitstaff now at NF - and I saw on NF staff now at this location). And the reason it was missed is because the customer service was probably the worst I've experienced at any restaurant. When I walked in, I waited for a minute - it was almost empty with a couple at the bar, some folks in a booth. No one greeted me but then a waiter named Seoul (Sol?) came up and asked me what I wanted and I said, "I'd like to sit down and eat please.". Then, I don't understand why confusion ensued. He asked me three times if I was eating. Finally, I said, "I'd just like to eat - I can sit at the bar, thanks!". The waitstaff behind the counter did't acknowledge me - it was like I was invisible, what a great first visit! I sit and wait for the menu and observe all other customers after me being greeted (by all staff there) and Sol takes my drink order. I say, "Water, no ice please....". He comes back with ice and water. It's really not a big deal but I do note how NOT busy it is at that point...and how NOT very attentive he is being. I order Cabbage no Zaki giri "Taberu Rayu", Spicy Tuna no Dip and Yamaimo Teppan. And unlike another reviewer, didn't expect them to be so large (the Yamaimo Teppan was too much for me - mountain potato and ponzu on a hot plate). I thought the cabbage was a large serving as well but this isn't a complaint. Just to give others an idea about how large the servings are - it would have been better for two people. The cabbage was awesome. It's basically uncooked cabbage (raw) with a spicy oil on it that reminded me a little of the red oil they use in Sichuan, China. I felt guilty ordering it though because it looks like I can make it at home. But it was delicious...
The Spicy Tuna with the Rice crackers was tasty as well; I was happy with that. The quality of the food is what I expected from Naked Fish. The Yamaimo Teppan might not be for everyone although it was great to try; it's shredded potato baked with an egg, topped with bonito flakes, negi and nori. If you're vegan and don't eat eggs, just fyi this has eggs in it (and fish) although it doesn't state on the menu. It is also baked, not stir-fried it seems, which is the category it's under. Some of it was a bit undercooked for my taste but overall, I think it just had an interesting flavor. You should definitely try its uniqueness if you enjoy new tastes. The food came quickly - except for the mountain potatoes. I like that they have an open kitchen before you at the bar and you can see all that goes on - great idea.
Sol warmed up and checked on me one time (maybe because I was looking at the Sake menu - cha-ching!$ - at that moment). Or maybe because he is genuinely a very good, caring and attentive waiter. I'll believe the latter but give 2 stars for now. I will go back one more time (they have an amazing menu!) and hopefully things will be different with customer service or they'll never have to seat me again.
