  • This is a very small 99 Ranch compared to the ones I'm used to in CA. The prices here are a bit higher than the SF market down the street, but they do have some harder to find Chinese specific stuff like all the weird fried gluten, fermented tofu, and this specific fish ball with roe inside in the frozen section that I cannot find anywhere else (even though they carry the brand, but not that specific item). The reason I come here is for the rock crabs. Usually $3.99/lb, and other places don't have it. Although I don't know why not. It's a sustainable crab and available year round, and fairly local, as they are fished off of CA coast. They do also have Dungeness crab, lobster, spot prawns, and even Ridgeback shrimp, but all at a bit higher than other places. The staff here is actually pretty nice, and behind the butcher and fish counter, they actually ask if you need help. Location is kinda dirty though, and you will see a few stacks of brand new shopping carts still with bubble wrap in between the carts outside that look like they've been there for months, if not longer. Some of them have unofficially become trash cans. *Update: seems they have finally cleaned up and are now using the "new" shopping carts. Traffic coming in and out can be a bitch too at certain times of the day since it opens directly out to Spring Mountain. My crab was great though! Meat was very sweet and easy to open. Then I used his shells to make a crab stock and then crab and corn bisque.
