| - Proposed to my lady and she said yes. Now, it's ring-buying time. We had a good budget but my love had her heart set on a sapphire. We stopped at Spence cause we knew we could pick the ring, with or without the centre stone.
It's like they advertised, you can go in, walk around and grab any of the rings and keep them with you to compare to others. They're all fake, but look pretty damn real. I have to believe that more than one of these fakes have made their way out the front door. All and all, the store was unique and even an enjoyable experience. However, the sales lady that attached herself to us, left a lot to be desired. I understand they work on commision, so I get the constant hovering and I did appreciate some of her suggestions, but the 1st thing I did when we entered the store was tell her our budget and then for the next hour she regularly kept showing us rings WAYYY over our limit (by a $1000 and more over) and after I told her that I would not be interested in applying for financing, she kept bringing it up. Finally, and surprisingly, I spotted a ring and show my fiance. She loved it and we went and spoke to the rep. We sat down and explained that we wanted a sapphire instead of a diamond. She said that they only work with diamonds and that the ring could be sold without it, but we had to go through her 20 minute upsell pitch on their "100% real artisan diamonds" as an affordable alternative. But we were set on the sapphire, so finally the agent started our order. The base ring was a 14K white gold with 6 side diamonds that were S2 rating and that the ring without the centre stone would be a flat price of $1,850. Now my girl is all about the 19K white gold so she asked how much extra it would be to upgrade from the 14K. Turns out, its the same price. Why this clerk did not disclosure this information, when we were almost ready to pay for the ring, is beyond me. Well, since this was a free upgrade, I decided asked if the side diamonds could be upgraded as well. Sure was, improved all 6 to VS1 stone...all for the exact same price as the 14K, less quality stones. Not impressed with this clerk.
Keep this in mind if you're planning to do the same type of thing with a different centre stone. Ask for the free upgrades and if you like the white gold, go for the 19K. It's actually stronger that the 14K and it's a Canadian invention :)
