  • With all the recent remodeling of the theaters happening in Charlotte... I had not made my way to Concord Mills in a while, but apparently their remodel happened last year (reclining, controlled, seats you can reserve online). The first thing I noticed is that the ticket booth has been taken over by robots with giant touch screens and one "real person" behind them to help people navigate the menus. I found the interface to be pretty easy... there's a weird CC reader to the side that reminds me of Tron for some reason. The poor employee has to careen his arms and neck to see the screens and help people with their transactions, but overall... still a "good" change in my opinion. There are still stanchions for crowd control, but maybe this new system really cuts down on having lines form. Same basic layout, just renovated carpet and seats... the seats actually have touch buttons that you see on the theaters preview reel. Easy to operate in the dark, and easy to reset, once the movie has ended because the button is back lit. Since I purchased my ticket with the kiosk, the only person I had to talk to was the ticket-taker. He was pleasant enough... maybe one day, it will be replaced by a robot as well.... I think my geek side wants a robot Gandolf to yell "YOU SHALL NOT PASS" if you don't have a ticket, but that may be over the top.
