  • We had our car serviced at Canadian Tire Auto Center. Simple tire repair. After they took off the tire, they called and stated that our brake pad had 2mm left and that we needed the brake pad and rotor to be changed and maintained. The brake pads only had 1 month life left in them. I told them that we have our car serviced regularly at the dealership and have been told otherwise. I asked them for the % left. I called my mechanic at the dealership who confirmed that my brakes were checked in April and I had at least another year life. When I returned to the Auto Center, their story changed and said that they "double checked the brakes" and it was 'fine'. The Auto Center Desk said they wanted to be sure the story was straight or else I would come back and ask questions as to how they thought my brake pads needed changing when my dealership stated otherwise. I think they were trying to misrepresent the condition of the brakes to have extra work and billings. It was slow that morning and to say the brakes had 1 month life left when it wasn't true makes me realize there is a reason why we don't go to Canadian Tire for our regular car maintenance. We understand most Auto Centers try to up-sell you on extra items (ie: new windshield wipers etc) but to say our brake pads were down to 2mm, when it wasn't true, is being dishonest. To change their story once I told them my dealership does my regular maintenance and that I will call my dealership to confirm the status of my brakes......priceless. All in all, they did fix the tire and did a good job with that.
