I would've given this 5 stars before Dec. 31st. After four years of continuous membership, I went down to Phipps on New Year's Eve with friend when my ex-husband was taking of my 8-year-old daughter. She was laid up with a serious orthopedic injury, and she was really disappointed not to have been able to go. I was actually having a thoroughly lovely time enjoying the flowers, plants, and holiday lights. About 25 minutes before closing time, I was in the East Room and saw that people were decorating masks. I mentioned to a volunteer that my daughter was too ill to be there and asked if it would be possible for me to make a mask for her. The volunteer frowned and said, "This activity is for children. If I made an exception for you, I would have let all the adults make one." I just looked down at all the supplies left over and wondered how they'd all be used up in the time left. Of course they wouldn't, and I then realized this volunteer was "just following rules". Nothing I said at that point made any difference. I did NOT nenew my membership.
