| - I came here to try out a free first class to see if we'd like it. We both have dance backgrounds, and took beginner swing lessons. We thought we would try this out.
Bee's Knees, is focused more on Lindy Hop and those dance styles. It's not a style we're really into, so we have to be objective about this. However, I do know its one of the leading groups that teach this dance in Toronto, so if this is what you're looking for, you've come to the right place.
However, their teaching style is okay, except that it's more a mix and mingle and if you've come with a partner, you'd be lucky if you get to dance with them for more than 2 mins.
The class is organized (at least for the first class) in a large outer circle for leaders, and a inner circle for followers. Every so often, the circles move and you get a new partner. The class is huge, and almost with 20 couples. If you don't like dancing with a lot of new people, don't come here. Find a class that will have a smaller group size.
That being said, there are benefits to dancing with other people, not just your partner. If you keep dancing with the same person, you have a tendency to accommodate for any bad habits etc. This way, more variety, more learning.
But this large class, it's not for everyone.
