| - We visited on the last day of "Ocean of Light" exhibit because we just couldn't miss it. We are fans of technology, and an artistic, visual representation of data & augmented reality seemed appealing. My brother and his girlfriend had visited weeks prior and loved it. Unfortunately for us, we were not treated to a nearly empty museum as many others had the same idea as us! (We expected this -- we were just too busy to be able to make time for a visit prior to the closing weekend. Damn you, adult responsibilities!)
The Ocean of Light was divinely beautiful and entrancing, as expected. Such a cool installation -- we really wanted it to be permanent. The display itself was stunning, but the ambient tracks they had playing that went along with the light patterns made it truly immersive. It was quite the experience! Unfortunately, a horde of other humans made it a bit difficult to enjoy. It was supposed to be a quiet space for contemplation and observation, but instead we were treated to people everywhere, most of whom were just hanging out in the center of the display talking loudly about whatever. I was happy so many people came together to enjoy art, but come on! Be a little respectful, friends! :) Situational awareness is important, too!
Even though we expected the mob, I really wish we had visited on a day it wasn't very busy. Nonetheless, the staff and volunteers at the museum were absolutely wonderful. Everyone we met there was incredibly friendly, kind, and helpful. We learned so many interesting details about the art exhibits around the other areas of the museum. They have some cool stuff there!
It's not a huge place, but it was worth the modest entry fee. We love supporting the arts, and I'm so glad this place is here to educate people on the many different forms art can take. It was a cool break from the usual styles we see. The space itself was also beautiful, and we loved the surrounding area and park!
