| - CNJ Services was referred to me through my home warranty, American Home Shield, when I requested service to unclog my bathroom sink.
When I scheduled with them, the service representative said my appointment was between 830-1030 AM. I called the day of the appointment at 945 to confirm I was still on their schedule, and she said I was on the schedule for 10AM -1PM. I don't know when they decided to change the time of my service call and I certainly understand that things can change throughout the course of the day, but they did so without notifying me.
When the plumber arrived, he pulled up to my house in an unmarked truck. I almost didn't let him in because even though he was wearing a work shirt with a CNJ logo, he was wearing slippers and appeared disheveled. I answered the door, introduced myself, the plumber shook my hand but just said "here for sink." He didn't volunteer his name or say anything else.
He looked at my sink for about 2 minutes and said that he thought I had a broken pipe and asked if I would be here in 30 minutes because he needed to run out to get some chemicals. (Unless he wanted to use chemicals as a diagnostic tool to rule out a hair & soap stoppage, I don't know why he would want to pour chemicals down a broken pipe.) I'm not sure how he came up with the broken pipe diagnosis since he did nothing but turn the water on which ran into a bucket I placed under the drain as I had already removed the p-trap myself to check for a clog.
The plumber returned 30 minutes later. I opened the door, he entered my house without saying anything at all and the only thing he brought inside with him was a plumbing snake, no chemical products. Wouldn't a plumber keep a snake in his truck at all times? I would imagine that would be a standard tool to have at hand. He seemed shifty and unreliable from the beginning and this made me even more suspicious.
After about 5 minutes of using the snake, the plumber said he couldn't get the snake in more than 2 feet and reiterated that I probably have a broken pipe. I confirmed his name, Chris, before I signed the paperwork and he left.
I'm moving forward with my sink problem by getting a second opinion from a DIFFERENT plumbing company. I feel like my service call from CNJ Services was a waste of my time. They have a lot of room for improvement when it comes to professionalism, customer service communication, coordination, and face-to-face interactions.
UPDATE: My home warranty sent another plumbing contractor (Loyalty Home Services) for a second opinion. Xavier with Loyalty was very professional and cleared the hair from my blocked sink in a matter of minutes and all is fixed. I told him about my experience with CNJ and he said that he's heard all kinds of bad stories about them and their incompetence. See my positive review for Loyalty on their yelp page. I'm glad there was a happy ending to my problem.
