| - After getting yet another letter from the HOA about weeds in the front yard, I decided I needed to get some help. I've now used Cacti for several months (I do their monthly maintenance visit) - here are the pros/cons...
Pros
1. Price is reasonable.
2. They have a good website/automation system. I like the fact that I did automatic bill pay through their system.
3. Front office is responsive and efficient. My calls get answered/returned. So do emails.
4. The crew shows up as scheduled. I never need to call and ask what happened. Even with a rain day, they've always showed up the next day. I don't have to worry about no shows/tracking people down, etc.
5. Crews are very nice, work hard the entire time. They do a lot in a short amount of time.
6. They are pretty transparent about what they do and don't do. Their website is pretty accurate and has a lot of info on what to expect. In other words, it the website sn't all flowery words and marketing fluff, but actually gives some good info. I actually thought the materials they send when you sign the contract are pretty spot on as well - Cacti does a good job of setting expectations.
Things to Consider
1. You get what you pay for. If you are looking to keep your HOA happy, Cacti is for you. If you are looking to win best upkept garden on the block, this isn't their focus. (or you need to pay for more time in your yard).
2. Communication between the front office and the crews isn't perfect. If you have specialized instructions, call it in to the front office, but then also post on your gate, or be there to instruct in person. My standing instructions have all been ignored.
3. If you have specialty trees/bushes that you want handled in a specific way, I'd say this isn't the company for you. You either need to decide that you are going to let them do the upkeep how they like, or find another company.
4. They do a better job on weeds than I thought they would. They don't get 100% every time, especially during the spring. However, they get a good amount. No matter what, you are going to have to weed in between monthly visits to keep the HOA happy. But my back is a lot happier since I hired them.
5. Their topical fertilization program is for plants only (no trees). I decided to switch over from my deep root program and then discovered the plants only. Since my backyard has more trees and bushes, this to me translates to one more visit I have to schedule/deal with. So, I'm going to back to deep root fertilization for everything - more efficient.
