| - My wife and I recently held our wedding reception here. Ocho=amazing, in all aspects. From venue, to service, to food, the staff at Hotel Ocho never failed to accommodate and execute at a service level that gives definition to the word Hospitality. Our wedding reception was a party. As one of our guests mentioned, "we edited down it down to the best." We wanted intimate and trendy, casual with a splash of finesse, and none of the formalities of a regular wedding reception, but all of the good fun stuff, whilst being able to dress up, look good, and party hard as the night went on.
The venue: Hotel Ocho gave us the vibe we were looking for; Modern, trendy, and a convenient location in the heart of downtown, with three accessible public parking lots for our guests. Our reception was held on the beautiful second floor event space where we had a huge lounge area, a large enough wooden dance floor, and the most gorgeous well stocked bar any wedding reception could only dream of. They provided us with a projector with free wifi internet so we could log on and play our real-time slideshow via Events.tagram.
The food: We didn't serve dinner, as we planned. We didn't want to as to a) minimize wastage b) cut the formalities of having seating charts and c) we wanted a wider variety of food to serve our guests. So we ordered from there platter and canapé menu. Hotel Ocho did not disappoint. Every morsel that came out of the kitchen was heaven on a plate. The compliments from our guests did not stop, even a week later, my wife and I are getting feedback on how good the food was. Hotel Ocho, your culinary staff revolutionized the traditional concept of a wedding reception. Everyone was fed and satisfied and did not even miss having a sit down dinner; some didn't even realize there was no dinner! The food was that good. Let me give you some examples: large succulent rack of lamb that everyone was dying for, burger sliders that were so good they could put Toronto on the map as the burger capital, grilled cheese sandwich canapés that made the little kid inside of you squeal as you try to look all sophisticated in your outfit despite the gooey cheese strings pouring out from your first bite, fudge popsicles soo incredibly good, you would think they were smuggling them out from the CNE into our event. For our midnight banquet, they pumped out a poutine that put all of Quebec to shame, and corn dogs that so succulent and savory, they made you feel that all the good vibes of a summer fair was swimming on your tongue.
The staff: I saved the best for last. The service at Hotel Ocho is top notch. They took care of us at every step of the way and throughout our wedding reception; Everyone from the owners, to the management and coordinators, to the bar staff and wait staff. During the evening, they would go out of their way to troubleshoot, help serve and make our guests feel welcomed and relax, and made sure we were taken care of all night. Louise the owner, was super friendly and warm during the whole planning process. We had Rish as the event coordinator who was super friendly and nice and stayed on top with all our requests and planning. Jamal the operations manager was the super-hero of the night, the go to guy for every technical troubleshoot, and always available whenever we needed.
Would I recommend this place to host your party? Obviously yes. The venue is beautifully trendy, the staff amazing, and the food was a food bloggers heaven. (Though I left out a lot of other food items, we didn't get to try simply because we were busy having a good time socializing, we got rave reviews about all the dishes that came out.)
