Ed's is definitely the best place for ice cream/gelato in the east end. In the summer the lines are pretty long in the evening and on the weekend, but that is to be expected. Ed's is also a good place to bring your dog to pick up other dogs.
There are only two things keeping Ed's from getting 5-stars.
The first is that there is a weird break in the line between the ice cream section and the cash, which results from their serving process (you kind of have to see it to understand), and people will come in and place themselves within the break, basically jumping ahead of a dozen people who have been waiting for a while. This is partly the fault of the line jumping patrons for not being more aware as well as the patrons who don't speak up against it. But it's also Ed's fault for not having some mechanism from preventing this from happening.
The other issue is that I went there one winter evening and there was a sign that said "Back in 5 mins". I don't have a problem with the fact that the person had left, it was one guy working by himself and probably needed dinner. The problem I have is with the message, 5 minutes from when? Just tell me the time you'll be back so I can decide whether or not I want to wait.
