  • This post is pertaining to the Nordstrom in Ross Park Mall and Nordstrom in general: I drove 80 miles this past Thursday, and back, in good faith that the closest Nordstrom to me would have a reliable choice in dresses for a wedding I was attending that Saturday. After looking for about half an hour a salesperson asked if she could help me pick out a dress. I ended up finding one that cost me $500. Normally I would never spend this much on address but given the circumstances and how far I had to traveled I decided to go for it. The sales person was overall very helpful however she did spend spend an excessive amount of time trying to get me to purchase a Nordstrom credit card when we she was checking me out. When I got home I immediately packed the dress in my suitcase to travel to Wisconsin for the wedding the next day. On Saturday I put the dress on and left for the ceremony. To my horror, I discovered that the security tag was not removed from the side of my dress. I became very upset thinking about how I paid $500 for this dress. The one night I would get to wear it this summer, it had a tacky plastic bar stuck to the side of it. I couldn't help but wonder if the outcome would have been different if the salesperson hadn't been so concerned about trying to get me to sign up for a Nordstrom credit card while she was closing the sale. I understand that the Nordstrom policy on security tags is that the salesperson is obligated to travel to your location to remove the security tag if they accidentally left it on. Well, I was not able to be fairly compensated in this way since I was in Wisconsin, which is nowhere near the place of sale. For this reason alone, I believe I should be compensated for the poor service on behalf of Nordstrom. The following Monday, I drove the 80 miles and back again (160 miles) to have the security tag removed from the dress and to speak with the store manager. He told me there was absolutely nothing he could offer me for the poor service I had received. I was extremely disappointed. On top of that, he said he could offer to pay for my lunch. I took this as him cracking a joke, implying that I was being so cheap that I could use a free lunch. I am not only upset about the dress but very offended by the comment. He also asked me to report the salesperson that I worked with. I did not go there to get someone in trouble. I told the manager that if he wanted to use it as an example he could let everyone know this happened, but I did not want to get one specific person in trouble. Very poor management in my opinion. After this experience, I am left feeling cheated by Nordstrom. A salesperson was more concerned about signing me up for a credit card than removing the tag on the $500 dress I was purchasing to wear at an important family wedding. A store manager offered to buy me a peice of food instead of taking my poor experience seriously. On top of that, the store manager wanted the name of the saleperson so that she would get in trouble for making a mistake that is quite honestly a part of the job. I learned a lot about the sales culture at Nordstrom today, and I've got one word for it: Yuck. I've been a lifelong customer up until now, and intended to be for the rest of my life. Nothing was done to fairly compensate me for the poor service and defected $500 dress I had to wear to a family member's wedding. It is obvious this has happened many times, since the compensation policy is absolutely nothing - in fact, it is designed to embarrass the salespeople and let the cost to fix the mistake come from their own pocket. A word to the wise: Beware of the security tags. If one is accidental left on, Nordstrom is absolutely USELESS in helping solve the problem and make up for it, no matter how loyal of a customer you may have been.
