| - Took my kids (8 & 10) while looking for family fun in the city of sin. Ended up a bit unsure how to rate it. We went close to opening, around 11:30 AM and this turned out to be a good idea because we avoided both the heat and the long, sweaty line of tourists cooking (and stinking) in it as we left.
When you walk in you're first presented with a dolphin "habitat" that's smaller than the human pools next door. Our excitement at seeing dolphins was quelled a bit by the fact the poor creatures seemed cramped and unhappy. Now, I don't speak dolphin but it doesn't take a marine biologist to see the area is too small for the number of dolphins doing half hearted tricks for a bit of leftover fish from the buffet. I've seen better "habitats" at Mexican dolphin attractions, and that's not saying much.
Next your sweaty adventure moves into a photo room where they can green screen their way into your pocket. I actually saw some Asian tourists buy their photos so at least the depressed photo girls' efforts weren't completely wasted.
You're now in the "garden" area where Siegfried & Roy have been generous enough to pull their best magic yet: getting suckers like me to pay $70 for 45 minutes of viewing depressed animals. The lions were sleeping and looked (to my untrained eye) to be underfed. The black leopard was high up on a ledge.. also sound asleep. Can't blame him, though, as his enclosure was very small and uninspiring.
We got to see one white tiger walking around, and the kids really enjoyed that. The highlight, however, were the white tiger cubs who were playing actively with a prison, er, *cough* exhibit employee. They were really cool and the kids loved them. Unfortunately so did all the other photo hungry visitors who crowded rudely in front of the children to fill their iPads (yes, iPads for crying out loud) with pics and vids.
It was then time for the obligatory gift shop. Those darn cubs got my kids excited and cost me another $75 for two stuffed animals. Yes, I'm that idiot dad.
Overall, it was nice to see the animals with my family but if you've ever been to a zoo or real exhibit, this place is a serious waste of cash. If you're in Vegas with kids and needing to kill an hour or so, it's not terrible, but if you're an animal lover it's hard to shake a depressing feeling from the place.
