  • The M resort and I have been on the outs for over a year, from their buffet changes to casino changes to several poor customer service experiences that have made the early days of the resort seem like a myth. I've made no secret of my disappointments as I've gone from their #1 cheerleader at top blast to a head-shaking critic. But Babycakes is one area where M still has me doing cartwheels. Sometimes the baguettes are a little more dense and tooth-worrying than I'd like - you do take your chances there - but the ciabatta is always airy and flexible, and the bread turnover seems to be frequent enough that freshness isn't a concern. Often we stop in just to buy our bread for home. (Although now that I've discovered Bon Breads, this may be my "after nine p.m." breadmonger. Have to love Babycakes' midnight closing time on weekends!) The cupcakes are so large that what at first seems like the typical "cupcakes are so trendy now!" price tag of over three dollars is actually a reasonable value. I recommend the chocolate orange for well-combined flavors and consistent moistness. (I've tried a few of the others, and they were good, but the chocolate orange is really memorable.) The same delicious desserts from the buffet are for sale at Babycakes, including the gelato and sorbet, these last being available on the spot or in take-home pints and quarts from the freezer by the entrance. I recommend the nougat, or the coconut, or the chocolate mint, or all of it, really. (All at a cost less than the premium equivalents at the supermarket.) And the ineptness I've come to expect from the previously legendary M customer service. Not at Babycakes. Everyone there is so friendly and eager to see you happy. Just like old times. (Okay, sometimes service is a bit disorganized or slow, but the upbeat attitude makes up for it.) M, I'm still mad at you. Even as recently as last week I left boggled by one of your staff... but I also left with some great cupcakes. So, as long as Babycakes is luring me in, yet another chance is always possible.
