| - Being a resident for over 25 years, I finally decided to check it out, my fiancée and I headed out there in good spirits and here are some of the words I can use to describe it:
Disappointing, Creepy, Unorganized & Dirty, Shocking and I could go on, and on.
First I should explain that I am not a bitter person. I am a happy, well educated female who is in love, with a wonderful job, many friends, an overall a healthy life style. I enjoy children, art and support community events, however having said this, I would rather have a root canal than go back.
Disappointing: Art, where was it? There was barely any of it. The few artists who did manage to have a booth, which were all placed in odd areas, were unavailable due to the massive crowds of teens just "hanging out" at the event. I too felt bad for them, the exposure that they had probably hoped for and the possibility of at least making enough money to have made it worthwhile was clearly out the window.
Creepy: It was a surreal funeral-like atmosphere attended by all of Daisy Carnival followers. The 12-20 year old crowds of CHILDREN dressed in black, gathered in groups by already poorly lighted streets, most of them smoking pot (Thanks Metro for your support in making sure this is a drug-free event, although never a user, I can immediately identify the annoying smell) made it even scarier. Watching some of them express their "frustration of life" not artistic abilities on the street by drawing a large penis while another one started to draw what looked like a female part.......really?
Unorganized and dirty: Let's not discuss parking, read all other reviews and you will get an idea. However, to show how I was determined to be a supporter and make it a night of it, we walked over a mile and a half just to get there. Not enough trash containers, by 8:30pm, trash was all over the street and overflowing in the few trash containers at the event. No clear direction of where to go, what is where? We were left to follow the crowds and hope not to end up lost.
Shocking: Parents? Where were your underage girls last night? Because I may have an idea, THEY WERE ALL AT THE EVENT! It was heart breaking to see small groups of clearly underage girls dressed like street workers hanging out. Do you really believe your 14 yr old when she tell you she is just going to "Suzy's house"? Apparently some of you do, and if you were one of the parents that actually granted permission to your teenage daughter to go there, you should be locked up and submitted to parenting classes with videos of what is happening around the world to our teens!
Come on Vegas, we can do better!
