Trying to recreate our stay in London last year, my wife and I went to the Revolution exhibit at the Museum of Fine Arts which was when we went to the Victoria and Albert Museum. We had high tea in London as well but not on the same day. This day we had the tea right after our museum visit.
While the tea service was not on the same level as Fortnum and Mason, the Ritz did a good job. It was great that they are so close by.
Unlike F&M it was not an all you can eat affair but what was served was at a reasonable price in very comfortable surroundings. The chairs had high backs and were meant for relaxation.
The scones (cranberry and plain) were more bread-like than I am used but they were good on their own or with the raspberry and rose or 'red' fruit jam which had a taste of strawberry. The sandwiches were cucumber (of course), chicken with pesto, smoked salmon and cream cheese and what was described as tomatoes with olive. We could not taste any.
.
The pastries were excellent. Would I return, maybe if I don't find a better place in town.
