| - Well, what a pleasant little surprise this place turned out to be!
Truth be told, we had headed for a different restaurant nearby and they were unexpectedly closed early on a Saturday - what??? So as we were exiting the parking lot, we saw the sign and said why not? What do we have to lose?
Apparently, the other restaurant's loss was our gain! This is a great little hidden gem!
We passed on appetizers. I ordered a Greek chicken platter with Greek salad and the DH had a gyro platter with Greek salad. Then an order of Greek fries...just because. Opa!
First of all, this place is very inexpensive and that is critical to keep in mind during the review.
When the order comes out, it is plated as nicely as a restaurant costing twice as much. They took care to make the platter look attractive. There was a wonderful salad full of nicely fresh and chopped veggies and pepperoncini. Lightly dressed. And mine was without onions as requested. The salad was larger than I get in a lot of restaurants as a side order and yummy. Then came the meats. Gyro meat is gyro meat - unless you grill the crap out of it, there is not much to distinguish it from another restaurants's so lets just say it was fresh and hot as it should be. The Greek chicken........yum. Just yum. The breast was nicely marinated and cooked perfectly - not dried out, not crispy on the edges, just cooked perfectly. Did I mention this was an inexpensive restaurant and yet the care they take with their food beats a lot of $$ restaurants. The pita came out hot and fresh as well. And the Greek fries were just darned tasty - they were tossed in the house Greek dressing and topped with feta - and I almost had to arm wrestle DH for the last of them and I am not a huge fry eater but these were too fresh and tasty to pass up. And - side note on the fries - despite the fact that they were tossed with a little dressing, they were not limp and soggy. They knew exactly how to prepare them to keep them from turning into a hot mess.
In all honesty - I could not even finish my platter! And it was so good, I tried - and I took those leftovers home and did NOT split them with the pup!
Kudos to Mika's - we will be back again despite the fact that I can find closer Greek restaurants. You are worth the drive!
