| - terrible!!!!!!!! i was shipping a cell phone battery to california and asked to purchase either a padded envelope or small box to get the job done. the lady behind the counter was so extremely rude from the beginning, stating curtly that she obviously had both. i know lady, i was saying either will work, pick which you think is best... i am then informed that the battery was considered hazmat, and needed to be shipped triple bubble wrapped at 1.50 a sheet, and in a special envelope that was 2.50. i explained that in my many years of broken phones being shipped to verizon i have never used such care, and either had they. it is simply a cell phone battery, not a 10 pound mortar. she asks for my license and says she has to enter me in the system as shipping a hazmat item and that this would also be the only time i would be able to send something like this the rest of they year. for a cell phone battery. i sign a waiver, and she tells me the total is 12 dollars. i say forget it, usps accepts it in a normal envelope for 66 cents without a tracking number which i really didnt need the more i thought about it. she told be since she had already cut the bubble wrap, i had to pay for it even tho i wasnt wanting to ship with them anymore. youve got to be kidding me! so it was either pay 4.50 for nothing, or just have her ship the damn thing which i gave in and had her do. what a RACKET! now i feel like im on the no fly list or something for mailing what the ups store considers a practical bomb. upon leaving, i went to another location just to inquire the procedure for shipping a battery to see if i had just been had. sure enough, those precautions are only taken when the battery is of car size or larger, or has a "wet charge" whatever that means. the lady totally ripped me off and i am not happy abut it. ill stick to the good ole usps from now on.
