We adopted a little pup from the Small Dog Rescue at one of their adoption events at PetSmart. I really like the fact that Small Dog Rescue has primarily small dogs for adoption. It makes it more efficient to search the site and go to events for us who already know we want a smaller animal. There were multiple working the event that were friendly, polite, and knowledgeable.
When you get a dog they are already spayed or neutered, have their rabies shot, had 4-1 vaccinations shots (unless they are a small puppy in the middle of getting a series), microchiped, and checked out by a vet. The adoption includes one free vet visit. They automatically set us up with a coupon book with PetSmart (for rescue adoptions).
One thing that was nice for us is that they didn't require a home visit like some rescues. It does make it easier to adopt a pet and they are able to save more dogs quickly, but there could be issues with some homes.
I needed to go by the facility in Phoenix and I got to see the front of the place. It looked and smelled very clean in the front. I didn't get to see where the dogs were kept. The neighborhood it was in does seem to have a large homeless population.
A couple of weeks after the adoption someone calls to follow up. The woman who called was polite, warm, and very helpful. They have some really great volunteers.
