| - The food at Yama is still excellent, but I'm getting fed up with how impatient their staff is for you to leave. Our group goes once a month; we know exactly what we order every time, so it's not like we're wasting their time being chatty and indecisive. I'm actually pretty conscious of waitstaff and understand how rude it would be to hold up their next table -- for their tip, and for the people waiting in line. But Yama takes this to a whole new level.
It's bad enough they often stick you in the most cramped, traffic-bumping aisle ways possible. Many a groin have brushed our table as people try to squeeze past to their seats around us. The staff have even literally lifted the table next to us, up and over us, to fit more seats somewhere else. If they could fit a 2-seater in the entrance vestibule where people wait for their table, I'm sure they would. I'm surprised they haven't removed the hostess stand to fit a folding chair and TV tray for solo diners.
From the time we sit down, to when we're finishing our last roll, is about 30 minutes -- which feels pretty efficient in my mind.
But at that point, they will come clear away all dishes and drop the check. While you're thinking about dessert, they come clear the papers and napkins, and 60 seconds later, they come make a show of wiping your table while you're still sitting there. 90 seconds later, they come ask if you need anything else, and clear the menus. 45 seconds later, they come take the soy sauce. If you have the audacity to sit any longer, they come make a show of wiping your bare table a second time.
Sometimes people need a little nudge to get moving, but sometimes it seriously feels like we're being punked, and these ladies could not be hinting any harder.
There are too many great sushi places in this town to be cramped and shushed away like Yama does!
