  • If you know me, my thing is dessert. Yes, I'm all about it. I don't treat myself to it a lot so when I do, it's got to be worth the caloric intake. So when I was selecting where to dine during Restaurant Week, what I looked at on all the dinner menus was dessert offerings. When I stumbled upon Marche Bacchus' menu, the dessert option of tiramisu or crème brulee got me. We made reservations for 7pm and off we went. For the ambience, this is a 5-star place. The wine shop at the entrance is beautiful and reminiscent of the finest wine shops in Napa. We got there as the sun was setting so being by the water, with the fairy lights on, was just gorgeous. We sat by the bridge connecting one side of the outside dining area to the other. Next to us was a table of two clearly waiting for two more people. The host told us "Robert" would be by soon to get our food and drink order. About 5 minutes later, Robert came by. He rattled off the specials and took our order. I ordered the soup, chicken, and tiramisu. The BF ordered soup, salmon, and crème brulee. I also ordered a glass of wine. Robert wrote nothing down then went on his merry way. Not the warmest of servers we've had but whatever. We were finally brought water and bread. Needed the water as it has now been about 15 minutes from when we were initially seated. And although the sun was setting and we were by the water, it was still hot. Another 10 minutes went by before Robert came over with my wine. He was holding the wine in a small carafe and, I am not exaggerating, he literally dumped the wine into my glass and off he went without saying a word. It was about this time that the table I mentioned earlier, two people waiting for another couple, that the other couple walked in and joined their friends. (This is going somewhere. Promise) 5 minutes later, another server brought a cheese/nut/fruit plate that came with the menu. The candied walnuts were crunchy and sweet, the gouda was gooda (sorry), and the pears with mustard were a good balance of sweet and savory. Table next to us ordered apps. After our cheese plates were taken away, Robert came back with the soup. Carrot-ginger soup. This was really, really good. Super smooth and a great balance of carrots and ginger. I ate the whole bowl. Table next to us got their apps. Frankly, if we stopped right there, I'd give this place a 4 (taking a star off due to service). The food and ambiance could make this my #1 go-to nice dinner spot. But, alas, the night was about to get bad... We waited at least 30 minutes between our soup bowls being cleared and finally getting our entrees. What happened during those 30 minutes is what would ultimately send my BF through the roof. Table next to us ordered dinner. We waited. We kept waiting. Here came Robert. Walking to our table I was sure to apologize for the delay with our food. Wrong. He walked to the table next to us and apologized for the delay. At this point, we'd been waiting a good 20 minutes, they'd been waiting maybe 8. Surely he will do the same to us after leaving their table, right? Wrong again. He disappeared for another 10 minutes. I saw him peeking over his area a few times but he failed to even acknowledge us. When he finally came out, he was walking over, tray in hand, with some small bowls. He knocked into the chair next to my boyfriend to make some room for himself as he delivered to our neighbors a bowl of something-or-the-other, compliments of the chef, to "make up for the delay." Was this really happening?? So, I was sure, we'd get something similar. Instead, we got nothing. The guy didn't even acknowledge us. Unbelievable. This is when I started regretting picking this place for dinner. But damn you, Tiramisu. I was going to stick this out for you. Now we're 30 minutes between clearing of soup bowls and dinner. Finally, here comes dinner!! Only it's not Robert making the delivery so we accepted the food without complaint. Our neighbors got their food at the same time. My chicken was nicely cooked. The potato/mushroom medley was delicious. The salmon was nothing extraordinary. I purposely ate only half my entrée so I could stuff my face with Tiramisu. When Robert came over to clear our plates, he said they were out of Tiramisu. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? That's bad enough standing alone but he waited until now to tell me? Unbelievable. Then he asked if he could bring me a crème brulee. Is that my only option, I asked? Yes. Finally, my BF told Robert all the things that had gone wrong that night. Robert responded with, it's busy, sorry you felt ignored. The manager came over and had a similar attitude: let's blame it on the kitchen and they were busy. $125 for a party of 2 at a nice place with good food and service, is fine. $125 for good food but terrible service assures we will not be back. The owners need to clean house. Such a shame because the ambience is so distinctive from anything else in off-Strip LV.
