People are griping about the creative license the owners took with the names of their food, but my issue is over the fact that it is almost always tepid. I don't know if it's the server's fault or the cook(s) not timing things correctly but I don't think I've ever had a sandwich/burger that seemed freshly cooked.
Two or three weeks back, I dined with a friend and he ordered one of the "specials"- some sort of veggie sandwich that had decent ingredients but the different flavors just didn't go well together. I don't think he even ate half of it.
As a heads up, they make their own 'house' ketchup and if you don't like the taste, you are SOL since they don't have store-bought ketchup.
BEER
Maybe people love how often they rotate their beers but I'm not made of money and can't hit up their place every 2-3 nights for their $6+ beer. I'm also not really a fan of how their beer menu is presented- the bar area doesn't need to be that crowded. If they had a weekly rotation, they could print out weekly beer menus. My favorite bar in IL did this and it worked out just fine. Maybe learn how much beer to order or be okay with not having 31 'flavors' at all times?
Also, people rave about how amazing having flights are (really?), but I don't think it's a really good deal. The pours for the flights are about as much as the pours for a sample- if you're with at least one other person and you both get 3 samples, BAM! a free 'flight.' Increase the pours on your flights, or decrease the pours on your samples, otherwise it is infinitely cheaper to keep saying "Can I have a sample of X, please?"
SERVICE
Not consistent.
I'm not sure how many have actual beer knowledge but I'm betting they use the 'beer list' as a crutch. I get why they have the beer list as I'm sure they don't want to answer annoying questions over and over but this is the ONLY place I've been to that does this and I would honestly prefer a beer menu and use google if the server can't answer my beer question.
OTHER
I've been here a handful of times; twice when it was really busy (2nd night they opened and the grand opening). What you'll take-away from your experience is how incredibly LOUD it is inside, whether they're crowded or not. They need to invest in some dampeners or something, and considering how much they charge for their beers ($6 is the average, a few $5, rounded out with $7 and up), I'm sure they can afford it.
While I like the idea of their TV dinner night, I went once and the experience was lackluster. It's on the patio and the screen is TINY. Unless you're in the first 'row' or two of tables, you won't get a good viewing experience. In addition, you can't hear anything. I thought they'd have it streaming on speakers or something, but no. So if you're expecting to watch a movie, expect to be ignoring it instead.
I love their mural. It's maybe my 2nd favorite in PHX (after the 'illegal alien' sombrero one on Calle 16, also by Lalo Cota).
They don't currently have a happy hour but they do have a 'Ladies Night' on Wednesday. $1 off drafts.
They don't allow smoking on the patio. However, their patio is dog-friendly although I've yet to bring my dog since I live walking distance to the Main Ingredient (they have all day happy hour on Sundays and Mondays! $2.50 drafts, folks)
I expect I'll bump my review up to **** stars eventually since I really like the appearance of the place and the beers they bring in. Maybe after I get a hot sandwich?
